For example, in Zambia, Bayport focuses on educational support programmes and capacity building. Bayport sponsorships in Zambia include financial assistance to make sporting days happen and sponsorships to assist pupils who excel academically but cannot afford to further their studies. Bayport Financial Services believes that a society should be both healthy and educated to prosper, which is why we support sustainable community-building projects in these domains.

These partners serve as our connection with the heartbeat of our customers, as well as our collection arm, which is one of the reasons our uncollected debts figures are extremely low.

Bayport Financial Services was established from the outset with the understanding that our business model, or “The Bayport Way” is dependent on Bayport partnerships. They give us an intimate understanding of the markets we serve and help us design products that meet our customers’ needs.

Bayport partners

Bayport Financial Services’ business model, or “The Bayport Way”, puts great emphasis on Bayport partners as key players in our success. In fact, if it were not for Bayport partners, we would not have experienced such encouraging growth and success in Africa.

Bayport partners are players such as local industry, trade unions and stakeholders and they help us understand our target market and learn more about its attitudes towards credit. This in turn helps us to design better financial products that better meet the requirements of our customers. Bayport Financial Services continue to invest in partner relationships as key to our success.

Bayport Zambia

Bayport Zambia is the company’s oldest operations, having been established in 2002 to bring affordable credit to Zambians, particularly mineworkers in the Copper Belt. Therefore, our most important Zambian partner in establishing our business was the Mineworkers’ Union of Zambia.

This venture proved a big success and laid the foundation for Bayport Zambia to grow beyond the mining industry and into the civil service. Bayport Financial Services now serves customers in the private and public sectors, as well as Government employees. In fact, Bayport now has one of the largest financial services infrastructures in Zambia and we are in a position to serve Zambians with affordable credit on a large scale.

Bayport Uganda

Bayport Uganda has only been operating since 2005, but rapid growth and widespread acceptance have made us a foremost credit provider in this country, with branches in eight cities. Bayport Financial Services aims to understand its client base by forging relationships with local industry, trade unions and stakeholders.

Bayport Uganda initially had to work hard in the Ugandan market, due to its uniquely decentralised civil service payroll system and a traditionally very tough credit market. Once we have overcome these obstacles, growth was rapid and Bayport Financial Services has experienced sustained growth, due in no small part with our favourable relationships with local communities.
